The Dayton Fire Department
The Dayton Fire Department provides core public safety services for Dayton citizens. DFD today...8 Engines, 4 Ladders, 2 cross-staffed Heavy Rescues and 7 ALS Medic units.
314 career firefighters and paramedics provide fire suppression and emergency medical services to the citizens of the City of Dayton from 12 fire stations strategically placed throughtout the city, and are staffed 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.
A diverse workforce prides itself in providing a wide variety of services using state of the art fire fighting equipment. Their crews are trained in fire suppression, salvage and overhaul, vehicle extrication, high angle rescue, fast water rescue, fire safety inspection, and hazardous material mitigation. Many members are trained in technical rescue as well. They also provide emergency medical care and transportation to a broad array of incidents. We have 7 medic units staffed with a minimum of one paramedic and one EMT-B at all times. In addition they utilize first responder fire apparatus on the most critical of calls for service.
The Fire Department also manages Dayton's Fire 9-1-1 Communication Center for dispatch of emergency apparatus and manages the CodeRED telephone emergency notification system. In place are various training activities for fire, EMS and rescue operations as well as fire and threat reduction management programs.
The City self-manages its fire facilities and emergency and non-emergency fleet. It also maintains and repairs small motors, tools and other emergency equipment and provides vehicle repair services to 28 other jurisdictions in a recently renovated garage facility located in north Dayton.
